Words from the Wise 28: Martin Palmer

In 25th Anniversary, Articles, Careers, Words from the Wise

This is a series of posts that uses a quotation by a famous person from history to make a point about career management. Take a moment to reflect and see whether you can start using this wisdom as you start managing your career.

Martin Palmer said:

“The secret to mastery in any field is to forever be a student.”

Proteus Career Management says:

“The secret to a fulfilling career is ‘life-long learning’. Never turn off your ‘how’, ‘why’, ‘what’, ‘when’ and ‘who’ buttons.”

The lesson? “Stay in learning mode.”

Dr Mike Warren says:

The concept of Lifelong Learning was introduced in Denmark whilst I was living and working there in 1971. It is the pursuit of knowledge for personal or professional reasons. It enhances our social skills, competitiveness, personal development and our employability. Learning is no longer divided into a place and time to acquire knowledge (school) and a place and time to apply the knowledge acquired (the workplace). Instead, learning is something that takes place on a daily basis from our engagement with others and with the world around us: don’t stop interacting!
