Words from the Wise 34: Bill Bennett

In 25th Anniversary, Articles, Careers, Words from the Wise

This is a series of posts that uses a quotation by a famous person from history to make a point about career management. Take a moment to reflect and see whether you can start using this wisdom as you start managing your career.

Bill Bennett said:

“What at first we find impossible, we later deem unlikely and eventually accept as inevitable.”

Proteus Career Management says:

“In many cases the ‘impossible’ eventually happens. Examples are legion, but can you think of an example from your career that happened because you refused to give in?”

The lesson? “Review your career.”

Dr Mike Warren says:

Many of us have career aspirations that may seem impossible to achieve. As for any journey, one of the first tasks is to know where your starting point is: only then can we plan the route we need to take in order to reach the destination. Use the top down approach: objective – write down your career aspiration; goal – define it very specifically; plan – define a detailed plan of action; action – put in the work and be persistent; review – keep your focus on your objective and constantly review progress. What may seem impossible can happen!
