Words from the Wise 47: Vince Lombardi
This is a series of posts that uses a quotation by a famous person from history to make a point about career management. Take a moment to reflect and see whether you can start using this wisdom as you start managing your career.
Vince Lombardi said:
“Some of use will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will be judged by only one thing – the result.”
Proteus Career Management says:
“At work it doesn’t matter what you are responsible for. What matters are the results you create with the responsibility you were given.”
The lesson?
“Be creative in your career.”
Dr Mike Warren says:
Have you noticed how creative you can be with the word “yet”? There is a story about two shoe salesmen that perfectly illustrates Vince Lombardi’s point. A shoe company sends two salesmen to an island in the Caribbean. When they report back, the first one says, “Nobody wears shoes – so we won’t sell any shoes here.” The other one says, “Nobody wears shoes yet – so we have a fantastic business opportunity.” Being creative in how you think can often produce the results that will make you stand out from the crowd!
