Company Outplacement

Outplacement services to help your staff career transition

WHAT IS OUTPLACEMENT

Outplacement is a term used to describe the efforts made by a downsizing company to help those departing employees whose positions are no longer required.  The person isn’t redundant but the role is.  A caring organisation will seek to help these former employees to re-establish themselves in the job market so that they can swiftly secure new employment and replace their lost income.  This service, called “Outplacement” is usually provided by a consultancy firm.

HISTORY

Outplaced is a niche Outplacement and Career Management Organisation which operates throughout the UK.  It is an operating division of Proteus Consultancy Limited.  Proteus was established as a limited company in January 1991 and is independently owned and managed.  Through Outplaced, it offers discrete and tailored outplacement programmes especially to the SME market and has been doing so for over 35 years.

Outplaced offers Outplacement, Career Transition and Career Management services and brings together proven techniques, fresh and innovative research and outside-the-box thinking, harnessed to a pragmatic and commercial approach which makes working with us a refreshingly different experience.  Our consultants have helped many people take the next step in their career and have worked with dozens of organisations on Outplacement assignments.

Outplaced is run by Proteus Consultancy Ltd, and Dr Mike Warren is its founder and CEO.  Outplaced is also supported and jointly managed by Peter Wilford who acts as a consultant to this division of Proteus.

Together they have combined experience in Outplacement and Career Management of over 50 years and they take pride in responding quickly to client requirements.

Outplaced operates remotely throughout the UK.  Outplaced subscribes to a Code of Conduct for Outplacement Consultants originally drawn up by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  Proteus Consultancy is an approved supplier to the Association of MBA’s and the Institute of Hospitality.

Our style and approach

  • Outplaced is wholly flexible and adaptable in its approach to outplacement.  We create a structure around the individual to meet their very unique requirements whilst avoiding a sense of ‘processes’.
  • Outplaced has become acknowledged as a niche player able to advise organisations on the best way to support their people who are going through career transition caused by their roles being declared redundant.
  • Outplaced coaches engage with people in a way that best suits the individual and their learning style.  We offer one-to-one coaching and mentoring and telephone support – and since it is remote there is no time and money wasted travelling to and from offices.  Our range of support types and formats also includes an online course that allows individuals to work at their own preferred pace.  The online course includes 4 hours of consultant one-to-one support.

Our front-line team

Both Mike Warren and Peter Wilford have built up a team of expert, commercially focused Career Coaches who have been carefully selected and trained.  They are at the centre of every programme and follow the Outplaced ethics and our quality standards.  We take pride in our coaching team members.

Clients are not invited to group sessions.  They are supported in one-to-one coaching sessions by their personal Career Coach.  The aim is to define a realistic and achievable career objective, and subsequently to help and support them during their job search, to focus their company research appropriately and to ensure their success in finding and accepting a suitable new role that matches their personal career objective.

All our Career Coaches have been selected and trained to deliver the full range of Proteus’ Outplaced programmes.

WHAT DOES OUR SUPPORT INVOLVE?

When an employer has agreed to fund outplacement support for an employee, Outplaced has a range of outplacement options to support them in their transition into a new role.

Any person whose position is being made redundant will know that dealing with redundancy is particularly challenging.  The practicalities of looking for a new job, including compiling a CV and developing a sales pitch to prospective employers, can be very daunting.  Clients may also be experiencing mixed emotions regarding the whole redundancy process itself and the uncertainty ahead.

Our outplacement programmes provide practical and emotional support needed for job search success at this challenging time.  We also go beyond traditional outplacement.

Outplaced takes particular time and care to ensure that each client approaches their job search in a very clear and focused way, having explored their options and guided them to make well informed decisions regarding their next move.  They then receive expert help in all aspects of how to get shortlisted, perform well at interviews and secure their next role.

Our outplacement programmes are all tailored to meet each individual’s needs.  Any given programme will involve working on a combination of many of the following:

  • Defining a realistic and achievable career objective
  • Identifying the most appropriate self-marketing strategy
  • Improving and developing an ATS compliant CV
  • Extensive practical advice and guidance on interview technique
  • Enhancing the impact of a person’s LinkedIn profile
  • Managing emotions related to redundancy and job loss
  • Dealing with frustration from not being challenged in their previous role
  • Talking about taking a career break
  • Making rational decisions about changing direction
  • If appropriate discussing how to start their own business
  • Understanding and developing a portfolio-career
  • The possibility of moving into consultancy or interim work
  • Discussing options for retraining, reskilling and qualifications
  • How to remain proactive in a job search
  • Guidance on salary negotiation and related benefits
  • Taking a critical look at job offers before advising acceptance

Due to our reputation within the field of career coaching, mentoring and outplacement through Outplaced we are sometimes asked by specialist recruitment consultants to advertise their opportunities to our clients.

When appropriate opportunities arise through this route you will be advised and given direct access to these vacancies.

Outplaced also has access to databases, including organisation names, SIC codes, number of employees, location and age of the organisation as well as decision maker contact details.  We also have access to specialist recruiters who operate as headhunters at the Search and Selection end of the spectrum.
